U.S. Air Force and served 4 years. On 27 Jul 1952 he and JoAnn Thompson were married in Decorah. Their 2 sons are Lowell and Duane. Harlan worked in the maintenance department at Luther College until his retirement. He and JoAnn reside in Decorah. Carleton attended the Canoe #2 school, Decorah High School and University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. While attending the U. of Wl he also worked and supported his family. After receiving a medical discharge from the U.S. Army, he married Mavis Livingood of Lenora, MN on 23 Aug 1953. Their 4 children are: Krisandra, Debra, Julie and Michael. The family moved to Oakfield, Wl in 1977 where Carleton worked for the Mercury Company. After receiving a B.A. degree in business, Carleton transferred to the Mercury Plant in St. Cloud, FL. Now Carleton is retired—he and his wife reside in St. Cloud. Eldon (b. in Calmar Twp) attended Canoe #2 school, Decorah High School and the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, IA where he earned his teaching degree. He worked while getting his education to support his family. Eldon served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War before going to college. Eldon married Kathleen Schissel in Decorah 9 Aug 1954. Their children are: Ann, James and Kyle. The family moved to Clear Lake, IA in 1960. James was killed in a one-car accident while serving in the U.S. Navy Dec 1978 when only 20 years old. He is buried in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Eldon retired from teaching Social Studies in Clear Lake Junior High School. He now owns and manages a Twin Oaks Campground in Clear Lake where he and Kathy reside. Alvin (b. in Canoe Twp) attended Canoe #2 School, Decorah High School and served in the U.S. Army 2 years, some of the time in Germany. He married Donna Lovstuen 2 Feb 1958 in Burr Oak, IA. Six children were born: Jeffrey, David, Wanda, John, Pamela and Thomas. Alvin and Donna live in Decorah where he is employed as a carpenter at Luther College. Alvin was president of Sons of Norway several years. Darrell (b. in Canoe Twp) attended the Canoe #2 school and Canton, MN High School. After graduation he served in the U.S. Army 2 years, part of the time in Germany. Darrell married Vivian Lovstuen 12 Oct 1958 at Burr Oak. Their 4 daughters are: Carrie, Connie, Brenda and Diane. Darrell and Vivian reside in Mabel, MN where he is a self-employed carpenter. Robert (b. in Canoe Twp) attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs, IA, graduated from the Minnesota School for the Deaf High School in Faribault, MN. Robert married Ruby Vinje in Willmar, MN 13Aug 1965. Their only child, Peggy Arlene, born 11 May 1969, died the following day. She is buried in the Russell Cemetery, Decorah. Robert has worked many years for the Onan Company in St. Paul. Ruby was president of the Minnesota Association for the Deaf. They reside in Blaine, MN. Theodore and Myrtle were members of the Methodist Church. Myrtle had taught rural school before her marriage and worked at the State Line Dining Restaurant in later years. Theodore farmed and had done farm work for others after he retired. He died 22 May 1966 and Myrtle died 6 Jan 1978 both in Prosper, MN. They are buried in the Russell Cemetery in rural Decorah area. Voyek, Frank and Clara (Koudelka) (JoAnn C. Dostal) Frank and Clara Voyek Frank Voyek was born 20 Feb 1907 to John and Emalie (Lukesh) Voyek. He attended the public school close to his home as well as the public high school in Spillville, IA. Frank married Clara Koudelka the daughter of Frank and Lydia (Barloon) Koudelka on 10 Oct 1933 at the Holy Trinity Church, Protivin, IA. Frank and Clara farmed the family farm in Sumner Twp until 1960 when due to Frank's health it was sold to Conrad Kriener. At that point the farm had been in the Voyek family for 106 years. There are a few acres of timber that still belong to the Voyek family. After selling the farm Frank and Clara moved to the new home they built in Protivin. Frank served as Sumner Twp trustee for many years. He also was a surveyor for the farm programs and a weed commissioner. He served at elections for many years and was on the Protivin Creamery Board. Later in life he was an officer of the Catholic Workmen Organization. Frank died of Leukemia on 11 Oct 1975. On 15 May 1982 Clara married Adolph Panos. Adolph died on 20 Sep 1990. Clara continues to make her home in Protivin. Frank and Clara were the parents of 3 children: JoAnn, Lawrence and Susan. JoAnn married Gerald Dostal and moved to Protivin. Lawrence married Jane Hruska and lived in Ankeny, IA and Noblesville, IN where he died at age 47 on 17 Feb 1989. Susan married Mark Belschner and lives in Frankfort, KY Vojik, John and Emalie (Lukesh)(JoAnn C. Dostal) John Vojik (Voyek) was born on 9 May 1872 to Mathias and Katherine (Stepan) Vojik in Sumner Township, Winneshiek County on the farm homesteaded by his parents. He was their youngest son and remained farming the land.
